“That, I think, is the power of ceremony. It marries the mundane to the sacred. The water turns to wine; the coffee to a prayer.”

Let’s Plan Your Birth Ceremony
Meet your doula Mariah!
I am Mariah Montero-Indigenous Birth and Postpartum Doula since 2022, I specialize in Spinning Babies and Mexican Traditional Medicine. I am also a Student Midwife with Cedar Medicine School of Midwifery with Center for Indigenous Midwifery.
I have received my doula credentials with Sharon Muza through DONA and eventually cross trained with Center for Indigenous Midwifery in their Birth and Postpartum Doula training. I am also a Certified Medical Assistant and graduated through Charter College and a carry a certification for Midwifery Assistant also through Center for Indigenous Midwifery. I also carry a Postpartum Transitional Coaching certification through Certified Excellence and am a Certified Peer Support Group Facilitator and co-facilitate our Grant County Peer Support Group ‘Sage Roots’.
Although my roots run deep in Indigenous culture, all are welcome and and accepted in my care.
I have two children of my own. My first being born in a birth center and my second baby being born in a hospital due to an unexpected emergency with my first baby. I could not imagine myself in a different field of work and am honored to be a part of ceremony to those who welcome me.
A Message from Mariah…
Birth is ceremony.
We spend so much effort, time, money, and energy planning our weddings, graduation, and funeral ceremonies, but why not give the same amount of intentions behind our births?
I believe in fully preparing for the arrival of the human soul we have created within our wombs. The identity shift we experience, whether you are preparing for the arrival of your first child, or fifteenth child, the act of surrendering to childbirth and trenches of the perinatal journey at any point in your timeline, and evolving into your new reality all deserve guidance, acceptance, and tenderness.
Being empowered in your decisions matter. Whether you are planning a unmedicated homebirth, or a planned surgical birth- honoring your ceremony with intention matters!
I do not believe in withholding education and awareness around what is happening to our bodies, minds, and spirits. I believe it is our human rights to understand our journey’s of becoming caretakers to newborns.
Let’s prepare for ceremony.
-
Doulas provide emotional, physical, and educational support to expecting families. This is achieved by getting to know you before birth, actively accommodating to your wants and needs during birth, and providing and support needed after birth.
-
Partners may also benefit from a doula as much- if not more than- the birthing person! Doulas can help guide the partner on how to support the laboring person and the doula can even make sure the partners’ needs are met as well. Doulas are there for the family, not just the birthing person.
-
Doulas can support all types of births; from unmedicated homebirths, to planned cesarean births. Even birth that are planned medicated can find much use and support from a doula.
-
I was trained with Sharon Muza (founder of the Miles Circuit) based out of Seattle Washington, with DONA International and Birth Doula Certified through the Washington State Department of Health. I am certified for Postpartum Coaching through Certified Excellence. I am member if the BirthWorker Community by The Autonomy Mommy and consistently seeking further education.

Yes, every birth experience is different. Just like how our children’s personalities are different. Seeking extra support is never a bad idea!
-
Doulas and Midwives have totally different roles! Doulas DO NOT catch babies, preform medical tasks (cervical checks, blood pressure, medical advice, ect) and make medical decisions. Doulas are present to support the families wishes, advocate for their clients, provide comfort techniques and information.
Midwives- CPM’s (Certified Professional Midwives) or CNM’s (certified Nurse Midwives) DO in fact conduct medical tasks. Such as catching babies, monitoring safety, managing emergencies, offering medical advice, and more.
Doulas and midwives work in harmony fulfilling totally different, but very important, roles in your perinatal journey!
Do I need a Doula?
